Abstract
1530635 Automatic control ERWIN SICK GmbH OPTIK-ELEKTRONIK 2 Feb 1976 [7 Feb 1975] 03978/76 Heading G3N [Also in Division G 1] In a curve following system having a photoelectric head 11, Fig. 1, which follows a line 13, additional information is presented to the head by code marks on one or both sides of the line. These marks, e.g. 17, lie in zones 14a, 14b on either side of the guide line zone 12, and the head is provided with masks, or preferably with electronic gating, to sense the zones separately. The code masks are longer than the width of the guide line, so that they can be distinguished from guide line crossings as in Fig. 2. For this purpose the head velocity is integrated during the time taken to traverse the mark in the code zone, so as to measure the mark length. One or more masks may be used on either side of the line for each item of information. The masks may be bar codes. The masks may be detachable stickers which can be placed adjacent the guide line and removed as desired. The information in the codes may control the head movement at an intersection of guide lines, in which case the integrator of the parent Specification may be useful, or may control a machining operation.
