Abstract

1529439 Pyridiniopyridons IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd A R KATRITZKY and M P SAMMES 12 Dec 1975 [23 Dec 1974] 55448/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds (I) where R 1 and R 2 are H, C 1-4 alkyl, alkoxyl or aryl and R 3 and R 4 are H or CH 3 and X is an anion derived from a strong mineral acid, their preparation by reacting a compound (II) with a dehydroacetic acid or chelidonic acid and a strong mineral acid and isolating and stabilizing the product, and the preparation of compounds (IV) by reacting a compound (I) with POCl 3 in a substantially water-free solvent, the proportion of compounds (V) by reacting a compound (IV) with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal benzene-sulphinate, the preparation of a cyanopyridine (VIII) by reacting a compound (I) with an alkali metal cyanide at ambient temperature and the preparation of compounds (VII), when R 5 is H or CH 3 , by reacting a compound (I) with ArNH 2 where Ar is R 5 -substituted phenyl.
