1529195 Measuring blood coagulation time GEOMET Inc 28 Oct 1975 44450/75 Heading G1B The coagulation time of a fluid which has been combined with reagent capable of increasing its viscosity, for example of blood previously combined with reagent comprising in lyophilized form thromboplastin, gelatine and to make the composition porous for rapid dissolution, formed silica as an extender, is determined by introducing the fluid into one end of a hollow cylinder, supporting the cylinder so that the fluid moves downwardly and determining the coagulation time from the distance the sample travels before coagulation immobilizes it in the cylinder. The rate of descent may be controlled by means of a limiting orifice at the outlet end of the cylinder as shown or by means of projections on the inner surface of the cylinder or using a porous plug.
