Abstract

1528504 Coagulated coatings IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 July 1977 [28 July 1976 8 Dec 1976 11 Feb 1977] 31454/76 51192/76 and 5713/77 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] An article such as a orientable polyethylene terephthalate preform for a container or a film is treated with a coagulant, an Al, Ca or Mg salt preferably containing a surfactant such as an ethoxylated tallow amine hydrochloride and then coated with an aqueous polymeric dispersion, e.g. a vinylidene chloride copolymer, dried and oriented. The article may be treated with a solvent or a primer before coagulant treatment. Many coating polymers are specified. Primer may be of polyurethane or carboxylated vinylidene chloride copolymer. Adhesion promotors, e.g. acrylic or itaconic acid may be employed instead of primers.
