Abstract
1528436 Production of dry, solid, polyacrylamide AMERICAN COLLOID CO 21 April 1977 16686/77 Heading C3P Dry, solid polyacrylamide is produced by depositing (1) a single phase blend of 60-80 wt.% acrylamide and 40-20 wt.% water and (2) an aqueous solution of an initiator, on a surface having a temperature of between 50‹ C. and the charring point of polyacrylamide so as to form a mixture of (1) and (2), whereby polymerization occurs on the surface and the water is evaporated, and finally removing the dry solid polyacrylamide from the surface. The surface is preferably a rotating disc of diameter 6 ft. which is continually heated by gas burners, and rotates at such a rate that product can be removed by a scraper and fresh reactants coated in a continuous manner.
