Abstract

1527604 Radio direction finding C E COOPER 3 Aug 1976 [19 Aug 1975] 34400/75 Heading H4D A radio homer, having a pair of antennas 10 and 11 each mounted on a craft athwartships at a predetermined spacing, includes a pair of feeder line sections 12, 13 each connected to a respective antenna and mounted on a printed circuit board 14 in close proximity to provide quadrature coupling between the two lines. The system is thus arranged to provide a cardioid directional pattern having a null in the athwartships direction which is reversed by alternating the connections made in electronic switch 15 whereby the radiation pattern in the axial direction of heading of the craft is the same for both alternating cycles. Modulator 18 operates at an audio frequency to operate switch 15 whereby a tone may be produced at speaker 19 for off axis receiving directions, or the bearing may be measured by phase detector 20.
