1526904 Position encoding ISLEF & HAGEN AS 31 March 1977 [1 April 1976] 13568/77 Heading H3H The angular position of a shaft is indicated over a range of n revolutions by a pair of Gray-coded discs or drums gear-coupled in the ratio n:(n-1), having numbers of unit steps in the same ratio, mutually offset by half a unit step. Because the gear ratio is nearly unity, errors are reduced.
