Abstract

1526588 Sodium-sulphur battery CHLORIDE SILENT POWER Ltd 28 July 1977 [2 Aug 1976] 32100/76 Heading H1B A Na-S battery comprises cells provided with a matrix of porous material inert to Na, S and Na polysulphides extending therearound preferably separating individual cells, and non- porous material forming a casing around the matrix. Separators, e.g. strips of alumina or malleable Fe with coating, e.g. of graphite, carbide, sulphide or sulphate resistant to Na polysulphides, may be arranged between adjaccent cells in the matrix. The porous material may be a unitary block of alumina, magnesia, zirconia and/or fireclay, SiN or packed pulverized fuel ash.
