Abstract
1526455 Organomagnesium complexes TEXAS ALKYLS Inc 6 April 1976 [23 April 1975] 13848/76 Heading C2J The invention comprises organomagnesium complexes of the general formula where Y is an organozinc or organoboron compound selected from dialkylzincs, alkylzinchalides, trialkylborons, dialkylboron halides and alkylborondihalides, the alkyl portion of which is primary, secondary or tertiary alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> is primary alkyl or aryl, and m and n are numbers such that the ratio m : n is at least 0À1. The complexes are prepared by reacting, in the absence of oxygen, powdered magnesium with R<SP>1</SP>X (X is Cl or Br) at 20-200‹ C., the magnesium being present in an amount of 1-2 moles per mole of R<SP>1</SP>X, and adding the organozinc or organoboron compound Y to the thusobtained reaction mixture in not more than a 10 : 1 molar ratio with the magnesium. The complexes are useful as co-catalysts in polymerization.
