Abstract

1525915 Television standards converters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 22 April 1977 [23 April 1976] 16880/77 Heading H4F The manner of operation of an interpolator in a television standards converter is altered according to the presence or absence of movement in the picture content. The converter disclosed includes line and field interpolators 10, 11 connected in series. The line interpolator is fed by odd and even field stores 3, 4. Movement is detected by a unit 5 which compares the present and preceding fields of the video signal to be converted. The movement unit feeds to a store 8 or 9 signals indicative of the elementary areas, or of the region of the field, where movement has occurred or signals indicative merely that movement has occurred. These signals control the interpolators so that, in the case of the line interpolator for example, interpolation using adjacent lines in the same field is performed if no movement has been detected, or using adjacent lines of successive fields if movement has been detected. The form of interpolation may vary from field to field or within a single field, and there may be cross-fading from one form to the other according to the degree of movement.
