Abstract

1525702 Electrostatographic developers XEROX CORP 22 Aug 1975 [26 Aug 1974 (2)] 34944/75 Heading G2C An electrostatographic developer comprises carrier and toner particles at least one of which contains a styrene/alkyl (meth)=acrylate copolymer in which some of the pendent ester groups have been aminolyzed to modify the triboelectric properties. Preferably the copolymer contains up to 25 per cent of units of the Formula wherein X is NH2, OH or H. These copolymers may be used to coat steel beads and may also be cross-tested with tolylene diisocyanate after coating and are then used as coated carriers. Alternatively, the copolymer of the Formula may be mixed with styrene/n butyl methacrylate copolymer, the toner as a toner with a steel or nickel carrier. When the carrier contains the desired copolymer, the toner may be a natural resin, polystyrene, acrylic resins, polyalkylenes, polyesters, epoxy resins or phenolformaldehyde resins. When the toner contains the desired copolymer, it may be admixed with a dye or carbon black and may be used with a magnetic or non-magnetic carrier.
