Abstract

1525617 Flame proofing textiles CIBAGEIGY AG 11 Dec 1975 [13 Dec 1974] 50859/75 Heading D1P An organic solvent-free fireproofing composition comprises (a) a compound wherein m is 1 to 6; G is wherein M 1 , M 2 are independently H or Me, n is 1 or 2 and each G radical may be different; and A m may be wherein D is an optionally brominated 2 to 6 valent C 1 to C 8 alkylene radical, s and t are independently 1 to 5. U is 1 or 2 and S+U is at least 3; or where Q 1 and Q 2 are independently H or C 1 or C 2 alkyl, Q is I to 5 and Z is 1 or 2; or wherein p is 1 or 2; or wherein X 1 , X 2 , Y 1 , Y 2 , Y 3 , Y 4 are independently H, Br or Cl, Z, and Z 2 are independently H, Br or Cl or together represent a chemical bond, the radical containing 2 to 8 halogen atoms; or wherein E is ethylene, methylene or - CH 2 - O-CH 2 -; or and (b) a dispersing agent. The dispersing agent may be a lignin sulphonate, an ethylene oxide adduct with an alkylphenol, fatty amine fatty alcohol or fatty acid, a sulphonated ethylene oxide or hexamethylene diisocyanate cross-linked adduct as specified above, an ammonium salt of said sulphonated ethylene oxide adduct, an aromatic sulphonic acid, a condensation product of an aromatic sulphonic acid with formaldehyde, a sulphated substituted benzimidazole, a sulphonated fatty acid amide or a saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. The composition may be applied to staple fibres or filaments or fabrics or garments made therefrom of polyethylene terephthalate, poly (1, 4-cyclohexamethylenedimethylene terephthalate) or nylon 6, 66 or 11 in the form of an aqueous emulsion or dispersion containing 50-700 g/kg of (a), 0.1 to 300 g/kg of (b) and 3-30 g/kg of a protective colloid detected from polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, methylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethyl- or hydroxypropylcellulose, gelatine, acid casin, starch, polyacrylic acid, an ethyl acrylate copolymer or a methyl methacrylate copolymer. The aqueous composition is applied by padding printing or exhaustion. The textile is heated to 70 to 100‹C to dry it and then to 100 to 220‹C. The dried and heat treated textile material contains 0.5 to 19% by weight of component (a).
