Abstract

1525272 Sealing gas-discharge display panels PANEL TECHNOLOGY Inc 18 July 1975 [10 Oct 1974 (2)] 11940/78 Divided out of 1525271 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] In a process for manufacturing a gas discharge display panel, e.g. of the alphanumeric segmentation type as described or the crosspoint matrix type, an elongate sealing member comprising a heat fusible glass frit is applied to one of the pair of opposed plate-like substrate members in a pattern which defines the lateral perimeter of the gas chamber, a space being left in the pattern for forming the vacuumization and gas filling port and the frit containing spacer beads of a material which fuses at a higher temperature than the fusion temperature of the glass frit, the substrate members are assembled together in position and are joined together spaced apart by the spacer beads by heating to fuse the glass frit, the chamber is then vacuumized and gas filled via the port, and a molten glass globule is applied to the port to seal the gas in the chamber. Prior to the assembly step the cathode electrodes may be printed on one of the substrate members with a conductive ink containing a sputter-resistant material in powder form as claimed in Specification 1,525,271.
