Abstract
152,505. Imray, O., (Secord, F. A.). Oct. 1, 1919. Chambers; wheeled trucks, moving.-Relates to apparatus for drying bricks and other plastic materials in which the bricks are stacked on hollow supports adapted to be moved into position contiguous to a hot-air supply duct, means being provided for connecting the supports with the duct. According to the invention, the uppermost supports are pivotally mounted so that they may be moved to give access to the lower supports. The hot-air duct 1, Fig. 1, is preferably arranged beneath the floor and is provided at intervals with openings 3, which may be closed by covers 4. The hollow perforated supports 11 for the articles to be dried are mounted on a conveyer 5 which may be suspended from an overhead track 6 arranged parallel to the duct, so that conveyers can be run into position over the duct. The supports 11 are arranged in two or more superposed layers, the uppermost supports 18 being pivoted at their ends in order that they may be moved to give access to the lower supports. The conveyer may be open or may be provided with removable sides and covers. A header 14 secured to the end of the conveyer is connected with the supports 11, and is also provided with a coupling-pipe 35<1>, which is lowered into an opening 3 in the air duct. Thus the hot air from the duct passes through the header 14 into the hollow supports 11 and escapes through the perforations, finally passing out of the conveyer through openings 67. The articles are dried by the hot air and by heat radiated from the supports, and the drying is assisted by a layer of absorbent material 17 placed in the supports. The apparatus may be modified by mounting the conveyers on trucks running on a track on the floor and by arranging the duct above the tracks and the conveyer. The duct may also be placed at the end of the track, a tapered coupling fitting into an opening in the duct and similar connexions being made between a number of conveyers.
