1524613 Curable coating compositions BASF AG 6 Jan 1976 [7 Jan 1975] 0313/76 Headings C3P and C3V Curable coating compositions contain: (A.1) 10-90 wt. per cent of a copolymer of (a) 10-90 wt. per cent of a C1-8 alkyl (meth)acrylate, (b) 10-40 wt. per cent of a monoester of (meth)- acrylic acid with a C2-8 aliphatic polyol, (c) 0-50 wt. per cent of a C8-14 vinyl- or isopropenyl-aromatic monomer, and (d) 0-20 wt. per cent of one or more other olefinic monomers; (A.2) 90-10 wt. per cent of an ester-diol of M.W. 240-500 and of formula in which R<1> to R' are H or C1-4 alkyl or the pairs R<2>/R<3> and/or R<5>/R<6> may form a C5-8 cycloalkyl ring, provided that at least two of R<1> to R<3> and at least two of R<4> to R<7> are alkyl or cycloalkyl, component A.2 being fluid at temperatures below 35‹ C.; (A.3) 0-30 wt. per cent of a mono- or di-hydric alcohol of b.p. above 120‹ C. and M.W. below 200; the sum of percentages of A.1-A.3 totalling 100; (B) one or more polyisocyanates; the proportions of A and B being such that the ratio of equivalents of isocyanate groups to hydroxyl groups is from 0À7 : 1 to 1À3 : 1; (C) 0-25 wt. per cent, based on the total coating composition, of one or more inert solvents; and (D) 0-50 wt. per cent, based on the total coating composition, of one or more pigments and fillers. The compositions are formulated in two parts which are mixed immediately prior to use, one part containing component A and the other component B, other components being present in either or both parts as desired. In examples, the following specific components are used: (A.1) copolymers of hydroxypropyl acrylate with 3 or 4 of styrene, methyl methacrylate, t-butyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, butane diol monoacrylate and acrylic acid; (A.2) esterdiols 260 or 288 (formulae are given); (A.3), when present, 1,4-butane diol; (B) tris(isocyanatohexyl)biuret or the reaction product of hexamethylenediisocyanate with 3,31-dimethyl- 4,4<1> - diamino - dicyclohexylmethane; (C) nbutyl acetate; and (D) TiO2. In Example 3 dibutyl tin dilaurate is also included as a catalyst.
