Abstract

1523010 Solid electrolyte exhaust gas sensor NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 14 June 1976 [13 June 1975] 24490/76 Heading G1N A solid electrolyte exhaust gas sensor has both electrodes connected to terminals, from which lead wires are run to a control unit. The sensor avoids problems occurring with induced voltage signals and high resistance paths in vehicle metalwork in which the sensor is mounted. As shown, solid electrolyte tube 42 is mounted by member 24 and conductive seal 52 in exhaust conduit 18. Outer electrode 48 contacts the exhaust gas via holes 40 in shield 38 and is connected via member 24 to electrode 32 on washer 30, clamped in place by member 24. Conductive rod 54, fits in the opened end 46 of electrolyte tube 42, contacts the inner electrode 50 and is supported at its outer end by insulator 56 held by metal tube 26 rigidly attached to member 24. Terminal 59 is attached to rod 54 and bore 58 in the rod permits reference air to reach the inner electrode 50. In alternative embodiments, the terminal connected to the outer electrode may be located on member 24 or on tube 26. The leads from the two terminals may lead to a connector which detachably connects to a plug member leading to a control unit.
