1522200 Aerating water ASAHI ENG CO Ltd 10 Dec 1975 [12 Dec 1974] 50601/75 Heading B1C A rotary biological contactor for use in waste water treatment comprises a horizontal shaft 12, a generally cylindrical framework structure 13, mounted on said shaft for rotation therewith and surrounding a substantially cylindrical space around said shaft, said framework structure including axial end members 14, 16 secured to said shaft (as shown, Figs. 1 and 2, each end includes a disc, 18 or 20 welded to the shaft 12 and circumferentially spaced arms 22a or 24a extending radially from the discs) and a plurality of axial frame members 26a. b.... extending between the outer marginal edge portions of said ends 14, 16 at substantially circumferentially equal intervals, a set of elongate members 28a, b.... extending between said axial ends of said framework structure and disposed radially inwardly of said axial frame members to divide thecylindrical space into a plurality of sections 30a, b.... each having a generally sectoral crosssection, and at least one block 32 of contactor plates 34 snugly received in each of said sections and consisting of a plurality of contactor plates 34 arranged in juxtaposed relationship with each other and extending radially of the axis of said shaft, the blocks 32 of plates being located by contact of the edges of the plates with frame members 26a, b.... and elongate members 28a, b.... The construction defined facilitates removal and replacement of the plates since each block can be released by removal of one axial frame member 26. The plates may be sector shaped (Fig. 5 not shown) and to increase the area for growth of biological fur may have various-shaped projections on one or both faces (Figs. 8-11 not shown).
