Abstract
152,129. Orlandi, A. July 10, 1919. Aeroplanes; cabins; frameworks; wheels, runners. and skids; planes and the like, construction and arrangement of.-Relates to aeroplanes with planes in the form of birds' wings which run into the body and have no external bracing, and consists in arranging the ribs of the planes in a set of radiating planes and resting with variable inclination upon the curved leading and trailing edges, the ribs being connected by spars of increasing depth from tip to root. The wing is built up of spars f, g, h, k, Fig. 2, with ribs along radiating lines 6 b<1>, c c<1>, m m<1>, n n<1>, Fig. 7, outer spars along the edges also being used. The thickness of the wing diminishes from root to tip. and in section has an inclined surface C along the leading edge A, and a similar surface D along part of the trailing edge, as at m m<1>, Fig. 9, this surface being absent at the flexible portion near the tip, as at n n<1>. The incidence increases from root to tip. The wings run into the body and, when applied to a biplane, the body between the upper and lower planes s, Fig. 11, forms a cabin u.. In one form, the fuselage of a monoplane is cut away to accommodate a pusher propeller e.
