Abstract

1520819 Protein hydrolysate H J ROBERTSON 3 Aug 1976 [10 May 1976] 32302/76 Heading C3H A therapeutic agent comprises a non-antigenic protein hydrolysate containing polypeptides and amino acids obtained by: commingling the feet of young freshly killed poultry or the feet of other young freshly killed animals (other than human beings) with a dilute organic acid solution containing 1-1À5% by weight of acid at an elevated temperature up to 155‹ F., removing the fat constituent and removing the solubilized protein and dissolved minerals at the elevated temperature. By the feet of young freshly killed poultry or the feet of other young freshly killed animals (other than human beings) are meant feet of poultry and animals that are sufficiently young that the resulting protein substantially lacks antigenic properties and that the feet are in prime or undeteriorated condition. The said poultry feet may be obtained from chickens not more than 9 weeks old whilst the organic acid is preferably acetic acid. The poultry feet may be ground and pretreated with an organic acid at 70-90‹ F. The fat removing step preferably includes cooling the solution and separating out the fat layer. The agent may be in the form of a dehydrated gel which is obtained by reheating the cooled solution, after removal of the fat, and subsequently air drying the reheated solution. Alternatively the agent may be a powder which is obtained by spray drying the resultant solution from which the fat material has been removed. In an Example specific percentages of the following aminoacids, as making up the material of the invention, are specified: Asp, Glu, His, Lys, Arg, HLys, HPro, Thr, Se, Tyr, Gly, 2Cys, Pro, Al, Va, Met, leu, ileu, Phe.
