1520760 Immobilising stock J O H TRIPP 31 Dec 1975 [6 Feb 1975] 53243/75 Heading A5R Apparatus for holding animals comprises guide means 39 for positioning an animal above a stand 2 having spaced-apart supporting surfaces 4 for extending lengthwise of an animal along each side of the underside thereof, the stand being connected to raising and lowering means whereby the animal can be supported with its hoofs in the air. The stand may comprise supporting bars 4 shaped as shown in Fig. I and connected by a plate 6 secured to a shaft 16 connected to a hydraulic ram 18, the arm 16 carrying a pin 32 which engages a slot in a fixed collar (24) on the ram, whereby after the stand has been raised a predetermined distance the shaft 16 and stand 2 can be rotated. The end portions of the bars may be telescopic. The guide means comprises a wheeled box having side walls 40 along which extend horizontal ledges 61 supporting hinged flaps 62 which in the lowered position of the stand abut to define a ridge extending longitudinally of the box whereby the legs of an animal entering the box are guided onto the ledges 61. The box has exit doors 42 controlled externally by a lever system (Fig. 8 not shown) which doors may have mirrors on their inner surfaces to encourage an animal to enter the box. The entrance to the box may have doors or a lock bar. The ram may be a pneumatic ram or a scissors-jack may be used to raise and lower the stand. In a modification the stand comprises an arcuate plate the edges of which may be shaped to provide supporting surfaces or which may be provided with ridges shaped to form the supporting surfaces. A cradle to receive the animal may be secured to the stand or located adjacent thereto.
