Abstract

1520643 Reserve windings in continuous winding machines MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 30 Sept 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 39930/75 Heading D1J In a machine in which the thread being wound is automatically transferred from a full bobbin to an empty bobbin, the thread is initially wound on the new bobbin to form thread reserve windings thereon, the thread being guided in such a way that at least three superimposed reserve windings are formed, the direction of the helical angle of each wrapping being opposite to the direction of the next following wrapping. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which when a package is fully wound an arm 2 swings the full package 33 away from a drive roll 5, Fig. 3, and swings an empty bobbin tube 4 into engagement with the drive roll 5. At the same time the empty bobbin tube 4 is moved in the direction A to align one end of the bobbin tube 4 with a notch 17 in a rod 16, see also Fig. 4, the thread 7 being automatically removed from the normal thread traversing mechanism and caught by the notch 17. Rod 16 can be moved by a piston rod 15, Fig. 4, so as to move the notch 17 and a thread guide plate 18 to the right in Fig. 4 and so cause the thread to be laid as a first layer of reserve windings W", Fig. 5, on the empty bobbin 4. Further movement to the right of the rod 16 causes a plate 20 to swing to the left across the plate 18 and so cause the thread 7 to ride up both the plate 18 and the plate 20 to lay a second layer of reserve winding W', Fig. 5 on top of the layer W" but in the opposite direction to the layer W". Further movement of the rod 16 to the right causes the plates 18 and 20 to overlap so much that the thread 7 rides up over the top of the plate 20 so as to be guided solely by the plate 18 that is still moving to the right. This causes a third layer W of reserve winding to be laid on the first two layers, the third layer W having the direction of its helical turns opposite to that of the layer W'. Once these three layers have been laid as reserve windings the empty bobbin tube 4 is moved back in the direction B, Fig. 3. to its normal wind up setting and the thread leaves the notch 17 and is picked up by the normal yarn traversing mechanism 11 so that the wind-up operation proper can then commence. Each layer of the reserve winding may be wound with a different helical angle and there may be more than three layers constituting the reserve winding. Some of the apparatus of the present invention is the same as that described in Specification 1332182.
