Abstract
1520227 Crystallizable glass CORNING GLASS WORKS 6 May 1977 19063/77 Heading C1M A thermally crystallizable glass comprises, by weight, 40-85% SiO 2 , 2À0-17% N, the said SiO 2 and N constituting at least 50% by weight of the composition, and at least 15% M x O y , wherein M x O y consists of at least one oxide selected from the alkali metal oxides e.g. Na 2 O, K 2 O, Li 2 O 2 Cs 2 O, the oxides of the elements of groups IIA and II B of the Periodic table e.g. MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO, BeO, ZnO, B 2 O 3 and Al 2 O 3 , the balance, if any, consisting of other compatible constituents. The glass may contain As 2 O 3 and up to 5% by weight of MnO, Y 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , La 2 O 3 and F. The crystallized glass obtained is opaque and may be prepared by exposing a body of the crystallizable glass to a temperature of 750-850‹ C. for 1-8 hours and then to a temperature of 900-1300‹C for 2-10 hours.
