Abstract

1519519 Amorphous/crystalline unsaturated polyester moulding compositions BASF AG 7 Oct 1975 [8 Oct 1974] 40967/75 Headings C3M and C3R A curable unsaturated polyester moulding composition comprises (1) an alkaline earth metal oxide and/or hydroxide, (2) an inhibitor (3) a thickening accelerator, (4) a polymerizable monomer and (5) an unsaturated polyester component comprising a mixture of (a) 10- 95 wt. % of at least one amorphous unsaturated polyester soluble in (4) at room temperature and (b) 90-5 wt.% of at least one crystalline unsaturated polyester which is sparingly soluble or insoluble in (4) or the mixture of (4) and (a), at room temperature. Suitable thickening accelerators are HCl, PCl3, POCl3, H2O, dicarboxylic acid anhydrides, carboxylic acids, phosphorous acid esters or their halides, sulphonic acids and sulphonic acid halides. The crystalline polyester is preferably prepared from symmetrical dicarboxylic acid(s) and symmetrical diol(s), at least one of which is unsaturated.
