Abstract
1518977 Shaped charge apparatus for piercing wells SCHLUMBERGER Ltd 19 Sept 1975 [20 Sept 1974 (2)] 38482/75 Heading F3A A shaped charge apparatus for completing gas wells comprises a bar 68 having a curved external surface and being formed with a plurality of longitudinally spaced holes 67 for the attachment of shaped charges 60 and a plurality of auxiliary holes (not shown) alternating with the holes 67 to reduce the mass of the bar between the holes 67, whereby, when the charges are fired, the bar is deformed, without breaking, into a succession of small arches based on the auxiliary holes so as to enable the bar to be withdrawn from the well without difficulty. The internal surfaces of the bar are flat and include a slightly smaller angle than the covers 64 of the shaped charges so as to provide an interference fit. The casing 62 for the shaped charges are rotatable relative to the covers 68 and include housing 80 for a detonating cord. In a modification, the housings for the detonating cord are provided by metallic elements 83, Fig, 7, which are attached by dovetail connections to the bases of the shaped charge casings. A number of bars can be connected together (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown).
