Abstract

1518949 Air cooling and power supply systems SERAIS ENG SOC D'ETUDES ET REALISATIONS D'AMENAGEMENTS INDUSTRIELS SPECIAUX 7 July 1975 [8 July 1974] 28581/75 Heading F4V In combination with a data processing centre, an air cooling and electric power supply system comprises a gas driven turbine 1 drivingly coupled to an alternator 8 for generating electrical power of controlled voltage and frequency to be supplied to a computer and related equipment in the centre, the cooled expanded gas issuing from the turbine 1 being passed into the centre or through at least one heat exchanger 12 to cool air to be passed into the centre. The turbine 1 is coupled to alternator 8 via a speed reducing unit 4, flywheels 5, 7 and an electromagnetic speed control device 6 having a control loop 11 to vary the synchronous speed of alternator 8 in response to variations in load. In another embodiment (Fig. 2), a stand-by direct current motor (15) is drivingly coupled to the alternator for use when the turbine fails or the gas supply thereto ceases.
