Abstract

1518938 Inductors SIMMS GROUP RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 17 Sept 1975 [20 Sept 1974] 41012/74 Heading H1T A choke comprises a pair of threaded members 10, 11 or 19, 20 with threads of complementary pitch but different diameters so that at least for a limited relative rotation they do not engage and no axial displacement occurs, and a winding 15, 16 or 18 wound so that on passing a current, flux flows through the threaded members and through the air gap between their respective threads. The members are held against relative axial movement but may be rotated one relative to the other to alter the dimensions of the air gap and thereby alter the inductance of the choke. Fig. 2 shows a pair of members having two-start threads, the inner member bearing a winding in which the current through adjacent turns flows in opposite directions. Angular adjustment may be by means of a pinion 12 and worm drive. A thread with a multiple of two starts may also be used.
