Abstract

1517233 Joining structural tubes HOESCH WERKE AG 29 April 1976 [2 May 1975] 17507/76 Heading F2M [Also in Division El] A connecting member 1 for joining at least two tubular components (not shown) of a building construction, e.g. a drilling rig, comprises a cast steel body having tube endreceiving socket portions 11, 121, the axes of which are aligned with or at an angle to each other so that they coextend or intersect within the body between the open end faces of the socket portions, preferably intersecting at a point midway between these end faces, the body having external dimensions which reduce from the end faces to the said point. In Fig. 2, the point 13 of intersection of the axes of socket portions 121 with the common axis of socket portions 11 lies in a solid part of the body of minimum diameter. In Fig. 3, a continuous hollow region interconnects the socket portions 11 and the intersection point 14 lies in this hollow region. In a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the hollow region of Fig. 3 also extends to the socket portions 121 and the body is composed of two castings welded together in the region of minimum diameter.
