Abstract

1516116 Hydrostatic transmission control LINDE AG 19 Aug 1975 [20 Aug 1974] 34353/75 Heading F2W [Also in Division F1] In a hydrostatic transmission for a motor vehicle having a pump in closed circuit with a motor, the pump or motor is a tilting head unit 6 having a displacement variable between zero and a maximum and a reversing valve 21 or 165, 169, 170, 171 in the circuit between the pump and motor is provided in a base plate 12 of the unit housing 1. The unit 6 which is preferably a pump has a plate 10 secured to the end of its tilting head. The plate 10 has a cylindrical surface 11 which slides in a complementary recess in the base plate 12 and the plate 10 is connected by a rod 14 to the piston 29 of a follow-up servomotor that is housed in the base plate 12. A control valve 30 for the follow-up servomotor is connected by a linkage 31, 33, 44 and 62 to a manual control lever 60. In Figs. 3 and 4 the reversing valve comprises an axially slidable valve spool 21 which is biased by springs to a central position in which it blocks flow between the pump and motor. Alternatively the valve 21 may interconnect the pump lines in its central position. The valve spool 21 is moved to one or other of its end positions for forward or reverse drive by pressure liquid supplied through a valve 38 to one or other of its ends. The valve 38 is controlled by the lever 60. The lever 60 preferably actuates the valve 38 prior to actuation of the follow-up servomotor. In Fig. 11 the reversing valve comprises fluid pressure actuated valves 165, 169, 170, 171 which selectively connect pump lines 167, 168 with motor lines 163, 164. A control valve 138 selectively supplies pressure liquid to the valves 165, 169, 170, 171 to open valves 165, 170 or valves 168, 171 for forward or reverse drive. A shuttle valve 175 connects the motor line at the higher pressure to an override valve 178. When the motor supply pressure exceeds a predetermined value the valve spool 178 is moved left and connects the control pressure line 182 to exhaust at 183 whereupon all the valves 165, 169, 170, 171 open to provide a by-pass between the pump delivery and return lines. The override valve 178 may be actuated manually by a screw 189 to permit towing of the vehicle. In Fig. 13 (not shown) the shuttle valve (185) additionally supplies make-up liquid to the low pressure motor line.
