1516114 Mounting cores on spindles EASTMAN KODAK CO 25 July 1975 [25 July 1974] 31255/75 Heading F2U [Also in Division B8] Cores 2 on which webs are to be wound are mounted on a spindle assembly comprising, for each core 2, a latching member 5 movable between a position in which it allows the core 2 to move axially and rotate on the spindle and a position in which it axially immobilizes the core 2 and drives it in rotation. Each latching member 5 is integral with a respective coupling ring 3 which is in turn mounted on a friction ring 4. The coupling rings 3 are axially movable relative to the rings 4, by means of an eccentric 6 being rotated, to cause a projection 58 of each latching member 5 to engage the deeper of two cam indentations in the friction ring 4 and so move it out of engagement with the core 2. The cores 2 each have a groove 51 engageable by the end 57 of a latching member 5 for axial positioning of the core, projections 52 in the groove 51 causing rotational entrainment of the core 2. The friction rings 4 are rotated by the engagement of the heads of push rods 33 with a friction lining 42, the push rods 33 being pushed out by pneumatic expansion of a tube 34, the pressure controlling the tension of a web, which may be a photographic film. The drive is to a tube 7, in which the push rods 33 are mounted, from a member 24. The friction drives to rings 4 normally slips. The rings 3 and latching members 5 may be of plastics material, polycarbonate resin.
