Abstract

Separating by passing over or through graduated apertures.-A machine for sorting and distributing rivets, bolts, or like articles according to their length comprises conveying-means for the rivets &c. and means placed at various distances from the conveying-means adapted to lift and tilt the rivets and cause them to fall from the conveying-means. The rivets are fed by a shoot 24 or are placed by hand in the notches 20 of a wheel 12 which rotates above a fixed cylinder 11. A series of knock-off brackets 14 are arranged in a helical curve around the cylinder, as shown in Fig. 2, each bracket being adjust. ably secured to the cylinder by bolts 15 which engage vertical slots 18 in the brackets and horizontal slots in the cylinder. A series of inclined distributing-shoots 25 are secured to the cylinder adjacent the brackets, these shoots being provided with flanges 26 arranged tangential to a circle concentric with the wheel 12. The edges 30 of the brackets are arranged inside the axes of the rivets 21, Fig. 6, so that rivets of a particular length, on reaching the corresponding bracket, are lifted up and tilted into the corresponding shoot. Receptacles for the rivets may be placed beneath the shoots.
