Abstract
1515666 Secondary radar; aerial couplings PLESSEY CO Ltd 15 Aug 1975 [27 Sept 1974] 42071/74 Headings H4A and H4D In a secondary radar system including two aerial radiator elements which are fed in phase when transmitting the interrogation signal mode spacing key, and in anti-phase when transmitting a side lobe suppression pulse (between the interrogation pulses), the necessary phase change is achieved by feeding one output from a power splitter fed from the transmitter to a two state phase shifter and then to one aerial, the other output of the power splitter being fed directly to the other aerial. Hybrid coupler 2 is arranged to act as a power splitter and output 7 is fed directly to the aerial system 8. The other output 6 is fed in series with hybrid coupler 9 to the aerial system 8. Hybrid coupler 9 acts as a switchable phase reverser. Outputs 12 and 13 are connected to respective PIN diodes 14 and 15, which, when biased on by switch driver circuit 16, a zero phase shift is introduced, and when switched off, a 180‹ phase shift is introduced in the associated R.F. channel, to produce the required SLS radiation pattern from the aerial system 8.
