Abstract

1515098 Programme exchange systems COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS Ltd 30 July 1975 [6 Aug 1974] 07545/77 Divided out of 1512376 Heading H4R In a wired broadcast system wherein each subscriber is connected to an exchange via an individual cable over which the subscriber controls an individual programme selector using first control signals to give access to one of a plurality of programme sources, one or more of the programme sources may be selectively controllable using second control signals to which his individual programme selector is unresponsive. In a first embodiment the individual selector 55 is controlled using D.C. pulses produced by a dial selector and one or more outlets of the selector are coupled to further selectors 56, 57 which are controlled using frequency tones sent by the subscriber, a further selector 56 and multiple programme source 59 constituting a selectively controllable programme source. Alternatively, the selectively controllable source may be educational video records or a digi-TV machine in which a multi track magnetic drum or disc carries on each track a recording of one television picture frame. Such a machine may be associated with a computer store from which a piece of information selected by the subscriber may be transferred on to one of the tracks. For information to be used by one or a small group of subscribers a "dedicated" programme output can be provided as disclosed in Specification 1,420,628.
