Abstract
1514810 Crosslinked hydrophilic polymers S G PATEL [Trading as EUROGEL] 19 Aug 1976 [27 Aug 1975] 35331/75 Heading C3P A crosslinked hydrophilic polymer having a water uptake of 30-82% by weight is a polymer of at least one hydrophilic monomer or a co- (polymer) of a hydrophilic monomer andahydrophobic comonomer which is crosslinked with a crosslinking agent selected from 2,2<1>-(m-phenylenedioxy) diethyl dimethacrylate; 2,2<1>-p-phenylenedioxy) diethyl dimethacrylate, the crosslinking agent constituting 0À1-1À5 mole % of the units. The specific examples describe the production of the following polymers with the above specified crosslinking agents: 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate homopolymer, and copolymers of N-vinyl pyrrolidone with methyl methacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, glycidyl methacrylate and 2-hydroxy 3-phenoxy propyl methacrylate.
