Abstract
151,390. Roneo, Ltd., and Chipperfield, W. July 4, 1919. Sheet separators; pile tables and supports; sheet guides.-Sheets are separated from a pile for feeding to duplicating, printing, and other machines, the pile being supported on a table inclined at an angle of about 45 degrees, and the sheets are fed through from the underside of the pile through an aperture in the table by means of a rotating separating-device. The pile can be replenished from the top without disturbing the feed, and means are provided for maintaining the bottom sheets of the pile in a correct position on their supports, so that the risk of feeding two sheets at a time is minimised. As shown in Figs. 4, 5, the inclined pile is arranged on a table 1 formed at its upper end with an aperture of greater width than the widest sheets to be separated, and the sheets are separated through this aperture on to a guide 4 by means of fluted rubber friction devices on a rod 28 carried by rotating arms 27 on a shaft 26 driven from a gear wheel 30 on the duplicating or like machine. The separated sheet passes down to a guide 4 which directs it to feeding rollers. The table 1 is pivoted at its lower end by means of hooks 15 which engage a rod 16 in an inclined support 14 attached to the frame of a duplicating machine, and the table is fitted with side members 12, with back and side angle plates 11 which keep the sheets in position, and are secured by T-headed bolts 10 in slots 9 in the table which is formed with metal ledges for supporting the pile. The table is also formed with arms 5 formed with channel guides 6 for rollers 7, 7<a>, of sectional paper weights 8 which normally press the sheets down with a substantially constant pressure, and which can be turned aside and pivoted about the rollers 7<a> when the pile is replenished. The table is supported in a manner which permits the pressure of the pile on the separating device to be adjusted, and also so as to adapt the feed to sheets of various thicknesses. The main weight of the table is taken by lugs 19 resting on plungers 20 on a spring-controlled plate 21 resting on spring seats 21a the springs of which are controlled by a nut 22, in conjunction with which is an index finger 23 and scale 25. The front of the table is fitted with a rod 51 provided with a lever 50 which causes one or other of two bearing surfaces 52, 53, to be supoprted by a roller 54 carried by the frame 14. The front edges of the sheets rest on supports 49, Fig. 5, carried by plates 17 secured' by rods 18 to the frame 14, and in order to keep the sheets correctly supported the bottom of the pile is acted on by a roller 42 carried by rods 41 which is brought into engagement with the pile by means of the linkwork arrangement shown in Fig. 5, which is actuated by a cam 35 on a shaft 34 in gear with the shaft of the separating device. The rods 41 are actuated by links 43, 43<a>, connected by slides 47 which move in guideways, and may be controlled by a plate spring, and the links 43 are operated by rollers 36, bellcrank levers 37, and links 39. The rod 41 normally rests on bearing surfaces 45 on the links, but when the cam 35 comes into operation, bearing surfaces 46 on the links, raise the rod 41 so as to bring the roller 42 into contact with the pile, and the rod 41 is then moved across the pile so as to maintain the pile firmly on the supports 49. The roller 42 remains in a position to the right of the supports 49 while the device 28 separates the sheet as described.
