Abstract

1513556 Manufacture of hydroxyl containing polymers BASF AG 25 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974 (2)] 39264/75 Headings C3P and C3R A hydroxyl group-containing polymer is prepared by hydrolysis of a polymer containing acyloxy group(s) at 10‹ to 200‹ C. in an aqueous solution of a salt also containing an acid catalyst and optionally an alchol. The acid may be HCl, H2SO4, HNO3 or phosphoric acid. In the examples an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is hydrolysed in an aqueous medium containing CaCl2, and HCl with or without n-butanol and polytetrahydrofuran containing acetyl end groups is hydrolysed in an aqueous medium containing NaCl or CaCl2; H2SO4 and n- or iso-butanol, propanol or 3- methyl butanol.
