Abstract

1512683 Ball - and - socket joints A EHRENREICH GmbH & CO KG 12 Aug 1975 [10 Sept 1974] 33594/75 Heading E2F In a ball and socket joint for the suspension of the wheels of a motor vehicle, the joint comprises a two-part casing containing an externally part-cylindrical socket 2 for the reception of a ball of a ball head 7, the socket 2 being provided externally with one or more axially parallel slots 5 engaged by a finger or fingers 6 projecting from the internal periphery of a ring 3 embracing the socket 2 and gripped between the two parts 1, 4 of the casing. The axially parallel slot or slots 5 in the socket 2 may also penetrate the socket wall to function as lubricating grooves. The ring 3 and its finger or fingers 6 engaging the slots 5 in the socket prevent the latter from rotating.
