Abstract
1511444 Reducing irregularities in tyres HOFMANN GmbH & CO KG MASCHINENFABRIK Gebr 25 Feb 1976 [18 March 1975] 7484/76 Heading B7C [Also in Division B3] A method of reducing an irregularity in a tyre comprises applying a measuring arrangement, e.g. movable drum 11, to "a green tyre" 1, determining the irregularity in the green tyre by measuring force variations, or movements, applied to the measuring arrangement and resulting from the irregularity, and effecting a correction operation on the green tyre in dependence on the angular location and magnitude of the measured force variations or movements. The correction operation may comprise adding material to, or removing material from, the shoulders or the whole tread of the green tyre, and the material removal may be effected by cutting means or by rotary grinding members 16, 17 mounted on pivoted arms 18, 19 and controlled synchronously or independently. The tyre may be inflated to 50% of its design pressure and the drum 11 pressed against the tyre with a pressure of 50% of the normal working load on the tyre. The "green tyre" is an unvulcanized new tyre or a retreaded tyre prior to vulcanizing the tread. After carrying out the above method, a remaining irregularity may be reduced by matching the high point or low point of the irregularity on the green tyre with the geometric low or high point of the tyre curing mould.
