Abstract

1511000 Chlorinated polyethylene compositions HOECHST AG 28 Nov 1975 [28 Nov 1974] 49002/75 Heading C3M A thermoplastic composition comprises: (a) 70-95% by weight of a vinyl chloride polymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, and (b) 5-30% by weight of a chlorinated polyethylene, wherein the chlorinated polyethylene has (i) a chlorine content of 38-42% by weight, (ii) a residue value of 55-70% by weight (measured by extraction with a 1 : 1 mixture of toluene/ acetone and (iii) a swelling value of less than 1 % by weight, measured in methylcyclohexane, and has been prepared from a polyethylene having (iv) a density of 0À955-0À965 g/cm<3>, (v) a melt index of 20-65g./10 min. determined as MFI 190/5 (DIN 53735), and (vi) a reduced specific viscosity of 1-2 dl./g., measured according to ISO/R 1191 with a 0À1% solution in decahydronaphthalene at 135‹ C., by chlorinating in water or aqueous hydrochloric acid at temperatures at least partially above 90‹ C. and not higher than 120‹ C. At least the last 10% by weight of the chlorine may be added at 110-120‹ C. and suitably all the chlorination may be carried out at this temperature. The reaction medium may also contain silicic acid or a siloxane oil.
