Abstract

1510340 Electric resistance heating HERAEUS-WITTMANN GmbH 18 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974] 38454/75 Heading H5H A flexible electrical resistance heater comprises a carrier I produced from filamentary material to which a metal sheathed heating element 2 is attached by crocheting, knitting, braiding, lacing, weaving or sewing, the element 2 comprising a helically coiled resistor 6 within an insulating sheath 7, 8 of woven, braided, knitted or crocheted filaments within a thin walled metal (e.g. nickel) tubular casing 10, the casing 10 being formed by clasp jointing (folding over of edges) and/or welding the longitudinal edges of a strip of sheet metal (Fig. 3, not shown). An additional (plastics) layer 9 made by winding a strip, may be added to give added insulation. The metal casing may be corrugated on the side facing the object to be heated. The element may be spirally or helically wound; there may be more than one connected in series or in parallel. The extremity of the carrier 3 may be rigid. Alternative shapes of heater include pad strip and mantle.
