1510086 Cleaning heat exchanger tubes L L DILLINGER 9 June 1976 23773/76 Heading F2N [Also in Division B3] In a drilling or reaming machine, e.g. for reaming out the residue in heat exchanger pipes 27, Fig. 1, the hollow drive shaft 17 is fed by a piston 13, Fig. 3, movable forwardly and rearwardly in a cylinder 11, 33 and bore 43 in an extension member 41 by means of hydraulic fluid selectively applied to the rear end of cylinder 33 from a four-way valve 51 through passage 47 annular space 37 between cylinder members 11 and 35 and opening 48, Fig. 4, or to the part of the piston 13 from valve 51 through passage 48, Fig. 3. Valve 51 is in the form of a rotatable cap having two grooves (54, 55, Fig. 2 not shown) for establishing communication between adjacent openings 45 (61), 47 (62), openings (61, 62) being the inlet and exhaust respectively. The reamed tube is flushed of cuttings by pressure fluid passing from the rear of piston 13 through openings 79 in its rear face, the openings presenting at least 5% of its cross-sectional area, through central bores 15, 77 in intermediate attachment devices 75 and drive shaft 17 respectively, and out of holes, (21, Fig. 7, not shown) in the bit 19. The shaft 17 is rotated by motor 22 via chain drive 92 pulley 91 and spindle 81 rotatably mounted in extension member 42. The body of the machine is suported by two vertically adjustable devices 101, 103, 107 and 113, 115, 117, 119 on a lower frame 109, 111 clamped to flange 31 of the heat exchanger.
