Abstract

1509969 Mixing liquids in proportionate quantities ALLIED COLLOIDS Ltd 2 Nov 1976 [2 Aug 1975] 32383/75 Heading B1C A constant amount of liquid additive is measured automatically into a bulk liquid in response to each pump suction stroke of an in - line ram or piston pump 2 having a constant suction stroke and forcing flow of the bulk liquid. The additive may be pumped at a constant rate from a tank 4 through a pipe 5 containing a three way valve 9, the valve being connected to the pump 2 by a pair of microswitches. One of the switches is activated at the beginning of a suction stroke to cause additive to flow into the bulk liquid line 1 and the other of the switches being activated at the end of the suction stroke to cause additive to flow back to the tank 4. The bulk liquid may be an aqueous slurry and the liquid additive may effect dewatering or substrate drying. Examples of the additive are aluminium chlorohydrate, iron salts, inorganic additives or polyelectrolytes.
