Abstract

Cyclopentane derivatives of the formula I shown, wherein Y<1> and Y<2> are identical or different and denote a -CH2- group or a <IMAGE> group, are prepared by reduction of corresponding nitriles, preferably with the aid of complex metal hydrides, and subsequent hydrolysis. The compounds are intermediates for the preparation of prostaglandins which do not occur in nature and which have therapeutically valuable properties. The nitriles serving as starting compounds can be prepared by means of multi-stage processes. <IMAGE>
