Abstract

1509593 Antiskid braking systems SOC ANON DBA 26 Sept 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 39566/75 Heading F2F An antiskid braking system comprises dual brake circuits supplied from tandem master cylinder 10, the first circuit including front actuator 22 and rear actuator 20, and the second including front actuator 30 and rear actuator 32. Sensors 42 and 44 output wheel speed signals from rear wheels 24 and 36 to an electronic control device 46 which detects a risk of skidding and instructs modulating device 26 to reduce brake pressing in rear actuator 20. The pressure in actuator 20 is communicated to chamber 102 and that in actuator 18 to chamber 104 such that the pressure differential across a piston 106 caused by the pressure reduction in rear actuator 20 results in the movement of piston 106 to the right as shown in the Figure, a rod 120 also causing corresponding movement of a further piston 56, whose cross-sectional area is equal to that of piston 106, to the right such that valve member 86 is removed from its seat to allow brake pressure to drain from rear actuator 32 to master cylinder reservoir 12 while valve member 84 is engaged on its seat to interrupt supply to actuator 32 from master cylinder 10. Upon cessation of skidding, restoration of normal brake pressure in actuator 20 allows spring 92 to return both pistons 56 and 106 to their initial positions as shown in the drawings. As the areas of pistons 56 and 106 are equal the pressure in actuator 32 is maintained equal to that in actuator 20.
