Abstract

1508871 Copolymers of norbornene derivatives JAPAN SYNTHETIC RUBBER CO Ltd 6 June 1975 24506/75 Headings C3P and C3M Polymers having very good chemical and mechanical properties are prepared by copolymerizing at least one norbornene derivativo having at least one polar group or atom with at least one unsaturated polymer in the presence of a metathesis catalyst. The product may be a block, graft or block-graft copolymer. The polar constituent of the norbornene compound may be an ester, nitrile, amide, imide or carboxylic anhydride group, or a halogen atom. The unsaturated polymer is preferably a rubbery polymer, e.g. a diene polymer, EPDM polymer, polyalkenamer or butyl rubber. The polymers of the invention may be blended with another ring-opened polymer of a norbornene derivative as defined above to give products having further improved properties (see Examples 62 to 80).
