Abstract

1508646 High tenacity films and fibres E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 9 May 1975 [10 May 1974 (3)] 19697/75 Heading B5B Films, fibres and shaped articles formed from synthetic linear polymers capable of forming anisotropic melts, especially polyesters of Specification 1,507,207, are heat treated such that their tenacity or impact strength is improved by at least 50%. The shaped articles, e.g. filaments, are heated in a relaxed condition at a temperature within 20‹ C. below the flow temperature (usually at least 200‹ C.) the heating taking place before end capping of the polymer takes place by other means. Byproducts from the heating step are continuously removed by a stream of inert gas in contact with the article during heating.
