Abstract

1508526 4 - acylamino - thioxanthone - 5,5- dioxides BAYER AG 13 Oct 1976 [18 Oct 1975 8 Jan 1976] 42548/76 Heading C2C Novel 4 - acylamino - thioxanthone - 5,5- dioxides of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> to R<SP>4</SP> are hydrogen, halogen, hydroxyl or an optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aroxy radical and R<SP>5</SP> is an optionally substituted acyl radical of an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid or of an aliphatic or aromatic sulphonic acid, are prepared by treating a 2-acylamino- 2<SP>1</SP>-carboxydiphenyl sulphide of the formula with an acid condensing agent and oxidizing the reaction product. The acid condensing agent is suitably sulphonic acid and the oxidation is preferably carried out in aqueous suspension with chlorine.
