Abstract

1508513 Membrane filtration STAMICARBON BV 2 Feb 1976 [5 Feb 1975] 04022/76 Heading B1X In a reverse-osmosis process using a dynamically-formed membrane (i.e. one formed in situ by applying granular material to a porous substrate) on a porous tube, the flow of permeate is periodically reversed by applying a pressure pulse to the permeate stream so as to destroy the membrane, which is then replaced by a new one. As little as one litre per square metre of surface provides effective flushing in this method. The pulse may be delivered by a piston-and-cylinder device acting by fluid power on a flexible wall of the apparatus.
