Abstract

1508198 Slide hopper curtain coating method CIBA-GEIGY AG 9 Aug 1976 [22 Aug 1975] 34948/75 Heading DIL In a slide-hopper curtain coating method wherein a plurality of laminae of coating liquids flows down a central region of an inclined slide plane of the hopper and wherein in the free falling curtain at least one of the two edge regions of width at least 5mm comprises liquid supplied by a system separate from that which feeds the central region, the liquid supplied to the edge region(s) is the same liquid as the lowest lamina of coating liquid flowing down the inclined slide. The apparatus used is described in Specification 1429260: as shown the central slide region bears 3 laminae: 2 is a gelatine solution, as also is the solution 2 in the two edge regions; 3 is fine grain silver halide emulsion and 4 is coarse-grain silver halide emulsion: the method reduces disturbance of the coating due to interfacial tension effects.
