Abstract

1508120 Biological filter packing IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 Nov 1975 [30 Dec 1974] 55995/74 Heading C1C A packing for biologically treating waste water (including sewage) in a percolating filter comprises randomly packed extruded tubular pieces of an organic polymeric material, each tubular piece having two concentric walls and being provided with a plurality of vanes which extend between the inner surface of the outer wall and the outer surface of the inner wall. The tubular pieces may have a wall thickness in the range of 0À2 mm to 0À5 mm. Suitable polymeric materials are polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, certain acrylic resins and cellulose derivatives, but especially polyvinylchloride. These polymeric materials may be used in the cellular form to reduce cost without reducing rigidity.
