Abstract

1507697 Lubricating grease MOBIL OIL CORP 25 June 1975 [1 July 1974] 26946/75 Heading C5F Lubricating grease comprises (i) a lubricating vehicle of which at least 30% (wt.) is paraffinic mineral lubricating oil, (ii) a thickener of a "complex" soap of Ca or Ca and Pb and (iii) a specific terpolymer. The "complex" soap is one formed from a mixture of acids, in particular from a mixture of acetic acid, caprylic acid and acids of higher molecular weight derived from natural oils. The terpolymer comprises (I) at least 65% (wt.) of ethylene, (2) at least 5% (wt.) of an ester selected from vinyl esters of saturated aliphatic carboxylic acids up to C 6 , alkyl acrylates and methacrylates and dialkyl maleates and fumarates in which the alkyl group has one to six carbon atoms, and (3) 0À01 to 3% (wt.) of monomer selected from acrylic, methacrylic, itaconic, maleic and fumaric acids, the anhydrides of itaconic and maleic acids, alkyl half-esters of maleic and fumaric acids, monoacrylates and monomethacrylates of glycols, 2-hydroxy-3-aminopropyl allyl ether, allylglycerol ether, divinylglycol, 2-dimethylaminomethyl acrylate, 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and N- vinylpyrrolidone. The grease is preferably made by the process of Specification 1,507,698.
